PERSCRIBED STRUCTURE NINE

Character - Charlie Sheehan

I think I'm pretty much sold on this one, the character of Charlie Sheehan from Robert Newton's novel Runner, it's interesting and unique and has SO MUCH dramatic potential.

I'll start with my worries though, I am simply worried about Charlie's character as unlike many of the other characters he isn't extravagant and out there so his character trauts wont be as distinct and therefore I might become very sloppy when thinking about his character because he is very simple. I will just have to spend a lot of time developing the subtle movements I can incoorporate into bringing Charlie to life. My other concern surrounds the theatre style of biomechanics theatre, I'm simply scared of the complexity of it all and I'm unsure if I will be able to pull it off. It's going to be difficult especially becasue I really want to do it well. Learning a whole new and foreign type of theatre will be confronting though each structure has certain challenges that I will face.

I'm drawn to this structure for a number of reasons, on of which being that I'm in love with the convention and dramatic element and when paired together they are the absolute dream team. The convetion is stillness and silence and the dramatic element is mood, which is, in my opinion, the best pair that I could work with. I believe both those things are my strengths and I know that I will enjoy exploring them together in my solo, I couldn't think of two things more suited to the style of theatre I want to create. Additionally, I'm drawn to each dot point as I believe they have so much dramatic potential that I can't wait to explore. The contast between the notorious Squizzy and the smarts of Charlie will be golden and placing it in the setting of the 1920's, it creates amazing depth and contrast. Clearly this solo will come with a lot of work and research but I'm becoming increasingly passionate about it which will make the research enjoyable.

I'm planning on borrowing the novel tomorrow and begin reading it so I can take heaps of notes in order to do the best in my solo. I'm planning on working really hard to get an amazing mark for this solo and hopefully get into top acts?!?!?!?!?! :))))))))))))))))
